terms of service
Welcome to Twitter Atlas ("the Service," "we," "us," or "our"). Twitter Atlas is an interactive, read-only visualisation and search tool that displays a two-dimensional social graph of publicly available Twitter/X user data.
By accessing or using the Service at any URL under which it is made available, you ("User," "you," or "your") unconditionally agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you must immediately cease use of the Service. No registration, account creation, or affirmative assent beyond your continued use is required for these Terms to become binding.
These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and the operator of the Service with respect to your use thereof, and supersede any prior or contemporaneous understandings, agreements, representations, or warranties of any kind.
2. Description of the Service
Twitter Atlas provides an interactive map visualising social proximity between Twitter/X accounts, a search function allowing users to locate accounts within the map, and profile cards displaying publicly available account information alongside computed metrics derived from our own algorithms. The underlying index reflects a static snapshot and is not updated in real time.
3. Data Sources and Third-Party Content
3.1 Origin of Indexed Data
Data displayed on the Service was provided to us by Twitter.cat, an associated data collection and archival service, and was derived from information publicly accessible on the Twitter/X platform at the time of collection. The Service has no affiliation, partnership, endorsement, or other relationship with X Corp. or its affiliates.
3.2 No Guarantee of Accuracy or Currency
The data displayed reflects a static snapshot taken at a specific point in time. Account attributes may have changed since collection, and accounts may have been suspended, deleted, or renamed. Computed metrics displayed on the Service are derived by our own algorithms and do not represent any official classification produced or endorsed by X Corp. We make no representations or warranties as to the accuracy, completeness, currency, or reliability of any data displayed. You rely on such data entirely at your own risk.
3.3 No Affiliation with X Corp.
Twitter Atlas is an independent research and visualisation project. References to "Twitter," "X," "tweet", "@" handles, and associated terminology are used solely to identify the platform from which source data was derived. All trademarks, service marks, and trade names belonging to X Corp. or any other third party are the property of their respective owners.

4.1 Our Proprietary Rights
The graph layout computation, community clustering methodology, ranking and scoring systems, user interface, visual design, software, and all other original aspects of the Service are the intellectual property of the operator. Nothing in these Terms transfers any intellectual property rights to you. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the Service for personal, non-commercial, informational purposes only.
4.2 Third-Party Content
Profile content displayed on the Service remains the intellectual property of the respective account holders or, where applicable, X Corp. We do not claim ownership of such content.

You agree that you will not, and will not permit any third party to:
- Systematically scrape, crawl, index, or harvest any data from the Service using automated means, bots, scripts, or any technology other than a standard web browser;
- Use the Service to compile, aggregate, or re-publish datasets derived from the content we display;

- Use the Service to facilitate discrimination against individuals on the basis of any protected characteristic under applicable law.
5. Permitted Use
The Service is intended for personal, research, journalistic, and educational use. We do not prohibit fair use or equivalent exceptions under applicable copyright law.
6. Disclaimers of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WE EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND WARRANTIES THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.
7. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL THE OPERATOR BE
LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE
DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE
SERVICE, REGARDLESS OF THE THEORY OF LIABILITY AND EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE
POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. THE TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY OF THE OPERATOR TO YOU SHALL
NOT EXCEED EUR 100.
NOTHING IN THESE TERMS LIMITS OUR LIABILITY FOR DEATH OR
PERSONAL INJURY CAUSED BY OUR NEGLIGENCE, FRAUD OR FRAUDULENT MISREPRESENTATION, OR ANY
OTHER LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE EXCLUDED OR LIMITED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW.
8. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the operator from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service in violation of these Terms, your violation of any applicable law or regulation, or your violation of any third-party rights.

Privacy Policy
1. Introduction and Scope
This Privacy Policy describes how Twitter Atlas ("the Service," "we," "us," or "our"), operated by Tiago.zip, processes personal data in connection with the operation of the Service. The Service is subject to the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 ("GDPR") and Lei n.° 58/2019. As operator of the Service, we act as the data controller.
This Policy covers two categories of personal data processing: (1) visitor data collected from users who access the Service, and (2) indexed profile data sourced from the Twitter/X platform and displayed within the Service.
2. Data Controller
Please use the contact email at the bottom of this document to send a data controller request.
3. Visitor Data
3.1 What We Collect
When you access the Service, the following data is automatically collected by our infrastructure and third-party processors: IP address, browser user agent, referring URL, pages visited and timestamps, and error and performance data. The Service does not require account creation and may use cookies for tracking or personalisation.
3.2 Legal Basis
We process visitor data on the basis of our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) in maintaining the security, stability, and performance of the Service, diagnosing technical errors, and understanding aggregate usage patterns.
3.3 Retention
Visitor logs processed by Cloudflare are retained for up to 30 days. Aggregate anonymised analytics data may be retained indefinitely.
4. Indexed Profile Data
4.1 What We Process
The Service displays publicly available Twitter/X profile information provided to us by Twitter.cat, an associated data archival service, which derived this data from information publicly accessible on the Twitter/X platform at the time of collection. This includes profile identifiers, account metadata, social graph proximity data, and computed metrics generated by our own algorithms. Only information that was publicly accessible at the time of collection is included in the index.
4.2 Legal Basis
We process indexed profile data on the basis of our legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) in providing a tool for research, journalism, and education concerning the structure of online social networks. In conducting our legitimate interests assessment, we have had regard to the following: the data was publicly available; we do not process sensitive categories of personal data as a primary purpose; the Service is non-commercial and contains no advertising; and we provide a voluntary opt-out mechanism. We also note the applicability of Article 85 GDPR and Article 24 of Law n.° 58/2019 in respect of processing for research and journalistic purposes.
We do not use indexed profile data to make automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects on any individual within the meaning of Article 22 GDPR.
4.3 Retention
The index reflects a static snapshot. Accounts subject to a verified opt-out request will be suppressed from display within 3 calendar months of receipt and excluded from subsequent index updates.
5. Opt-Out Mechanism
We operate a voluntary opt-out mechanism for individuals who do not wish to have their account information displayed on the Service. To submit a request, send an email to legal@tiago.zip with the subject line "[Atlas] Opt-Out request" and include your Twitter/X handle and proof of ownership. Verified requests will be processed within 1 month or within up to 3 calendar months of receipt, suppressing display of your profile card and excluding your account from subsequent index updates.
Opt-out requests do not affect data you have published on the Twitter/X platform, which remains subject to X Corp.'s own terms and privacy settings.
6. Data Processors
We engage third-party service providers (data processors) to assist in delivering the Service. These processors are authorized to process your data only to the extent necessary to perform their functions and are contractually obligated to adhere to strict data protection standards.
